Cyprus Permanent Residency after 5 Years
Third-country nationals (non-EU) who have legally and continuously resided in Cyprus for at least five years can apply for a Long Term Permanent Residency, provided they have held a valid Temporary Resident Permit for the entire preceding period.
This also includes family members of European Union citizens who are not covered by the Right of Union Citizens and their Family Members to Move and Reside Freely within the Territory of the Republic Law No. 7(I)/2007. To be eligible, applicants must have resided within the controlled areas by the Government of the Republic and have valid residence permits at the time of the application.
Exemptions:
If you are a student or in vocational training, a recognized refugee, authorized to reside in Cyprus due to subsidiary protection, an asylum seeker, or someone residing in the country on a temporary basis or with a formally limited residence permit, you may be exempt from the requirements for obtaining a Permanent Resident Permit. Additionally, those holding a legal status under the Vienna Conventions on Diplomatic Relations of 1961 and 1963, the Convention of 1969 on Special Missions, or the Vienna Convention on the Representation of States in their Relations with International Organizations of a Universal Character of 1975 may also be exempt.
Required Documents for the Application of Long Term Permanent Residency
Some of the Documents needed for this Permanent Residency Application are:
- Valid passport or other travel document Certified copies of passport (including arrival/departure stamps)
- Valid temporary residence permit in Cyprus with residence address within the controlled areas
- Stamped contract of employment (or written statement of self-employment with registration receipt)
- Social insurance contributions statement for the past five years or confirmation from the Social Insurance Services that there is no Social Insurance payment obligation
- Health Insurance Policy
- Criminal record certificate
- Certificate of knowledge of the Greek language (level A2) for foreigners (if necessary)
- Income declaration from sources other than employment (accompanied by affidavit if necessary)
