How to get the Marriage License in Cyprus

Marriages in Cyprus are performed in compliance with Marriage Law 104(I), 2003, and a marriage license in Cyprus is mandatory in order to acquire a Marriage Certificate.

Couples interested in a civil marriage in Nicosia should determine the necessary paperwork that must be provided ahead of time, in order to obtain the necessary Marriage License. Civil weddings are available to Cypriots, Europeans, and citizens of other countries, with the option of holding the ceremony at the Town Hall. The ceremony can also take place in any other municipal or hotel site within the municipality. Couples can also select between the Ordinary Notification of Marriage procedure and the Express Procedure.

Ordinary Notification of Marriage:
Following the regular Notice of Marriage procedure, the couple can marry no sooner than fifteen (15) days after submitting the application and no later than three (30) months afterwards.

Express Procedure:

This expedited method is offered for an extra fee.
The Express is provided to couples who, for whatever reason, want to marry as quickly as possible. The marriage might take place on the same day as the application or at any time within fifteen (15) days after that date.

List of Documents for Marriage License in Cyprus

To apply for a marriage license, you must compile a list of papers, which differs depending on where the people involved are from. Before submitting your application, make sure to examine the precise criteria for your circumstance.

After the Wedding Ceremony

The actual ceremony is brief, lasting approximately 10 to 15 minutes. The couple will get the actual signed marriage certificate from the marriage officer in charge after the process is finished.

The Marriage Officiant issues, immediately after the marriage, a certificate in three copies signed by him, the people whose marriage was conducted, and at least two of the witnesses in. One copy is handed to the couple who married, the second is forwarded to the Registrar within seven days, and the third is recorded in the Marriage Officiant’s register.

If you are a Cyprus citizen married to a non-EU or non-Cypriot, you should be aware that your foreign spouse has the same rights as a Cypriot citizen. This includes having access to healthcare, education, and job possibilities.
