How to Get Compensation from Insurance after Traffic Accident Injury in Cyprus
The most common accidents in Cyprus are traffic accidents. This may be due to the poor condition of the roads, the poor road awareness of Cypriot drivers and/or simple carelessness. Many drivers who are injured in car accidents avoid claiming compensation because they feel that it is not worth it and that they will suffer a lot without getting any benefit from it.
Also many drivers are satisfied with the simple repair of their vehicle without caring about their health. It is important to get all the necessary medical tests done, because an injury that may seem minor at first can develop into something more serious in the future.
The whole process becomes very simple when you appoint a trustworthy Attorney for our Office to take charge of claiming the compensation you are entitled to for your injury. Another problem that victims of car accident injuries face is the financial part, that is, they do not have the money to pay a lawyer to take over their case.
Our Law Firm undertakes to claim and recover damages for its clients, FREE OF CHARGE. No payment is required from you, all we will receive as “profit” will be a small percentage of 5% – 8% after we secure and receive your compensation.
Tip: Do not sign or make any statement when a representative of the insurance company of the driver who hit you comes to the scene of the accident.

Passenger Injury due to Traffic Accident in Cyprus
Usually the passenger / co-passenger can get compensation much easier than the driver. The reason is simple, whoever is at fault for the accident, the passenger will receive compensation from their insurance company or the driver of the car they are riding in or the driver of another car. Also note that the fact that you will claim compensation from the insurance company that is insured does not burden the driver of the vehicle you are riding in at all. It is impossible to have an accident if at least one of the drivers is not found guilty.
Car Accident with an Uninsured Driver in Cyprus:
If you are hit by an uninsured driver, obviously no insurance company will pay you compensation for your injury. In this case, we will make sure that you receive compensation from the Motor Insurance Fund (MIF).

Traffic Accident with Motorcycle / Bicycle in Cyprus
Motorcycle accidents are also common and are usually caused by car drivers who:
- They turn sharply without warning
- They cut the road coming out of a Stop
- They change lanes without warning
- They open the car door while parked on the side of the road
- Throwing things out the window or things falling out of the car
- They hit the motorcycle from behind, due to excessive speed, negligence, carelessness
Motorcyclists usually suffer far more damage than a car driver, so the compensation they are usually entitled to is much higher.
Based on our experience from previous incidents, we see that the most common injuries after being diagnosed by doctors are:
- Abrasions – fractures: The scratches of the driver after falling on the asphalt are very painful and can cause infections and permanent scars. Broken bones can also cause permanent disability, require multiple surgeries, and chronic pain.
- Brain injuries: Always check for brain damage after a motorcycle accident, even if you were wearing a helmet. You may not feel the symptoms of brain damage right away, and it may take several days before you start to feel anything, but it may be too late.
- Spinal cord injury: Serious injury that may result in permanent disability or incapacitation. The compensation amounts for such injuries are very high because we have to calculate the future loss of income along with other factors.
Don’t worry, we will do our best to help you recover and make sure you receive compensation in the fairest amount. We care about your health and your future, and in the event that your injury may render you unable to work, we will ensure that you receive an adequate amount to cover your needs for life.

Traffic accident and pedestrian injury in Cyprus
Pedestrians are often injured when walking on the sidewalk or crossing the street. This is due to the irresponsibility of drivers or reckless and sudden movements of pedestrians.
The most common ways to injure a pedestrian:
- Due to excessive speed, the driver is unable to stop at a pedestrian crossing (zebra).
- Drivers lose control of the car and hit the pedestrian (even on the sidewalk).
- The driver tries to park and unknowingly hits a pedestrian.
Pedestrians are usually seriously injured and sometimes even fatally injured. However, the fault and/or negligence of the driver is easy to prove, since in most cases it is clear from the facts.
Traffic Accident and Injury on a Bus in Cyprus
When we refer to bus accidents, this includes both public buses and buses owned by private companies, whether they follow a predetermined route or some kind of excursion, tour, etc.
The likelihood of successful compensation for someone injured on a bus is very high because either the bus driver and therefore the company or the Government will be held responsible for the damage. Or, if the bus driver is not at fault, you will be compensated by the driver of the other vehicle that caused the accident.
We just have to prove who caused the accident and the Police usually help with that.
Most of the time, someone can be injured on the bus if:
- Passengers fall from their seats due to careless / negligent driving by the driver.
- Collision with another vehicle.
- The bus driver crashes the bus by himself.
- Unsuitability of the bus – the passenger may be injured due to the insecurity of the bus (eg dirty floor – passenger tickets, hanging sharp objects – the passenger is cut, etc.)
Such situations are easily compensated because the state or bus companies cannot avoid paying compensation and prefer to settle the damages.
Liability of the Government – Traffic Accidents due to Bad Condition of the Roads
Often an accident can be caused by bad road conditions. In this case, the Municipality or therefore the Government is responsible and you have the right to request compensation from them. This applies to car drivers, motorcyclists and even pedestrians.
Your injury may be due to:
- poor road or pavement maintenance
- poor road markings
- insufficient street lighting
- road works carried out without proper warning
- obstacles in the way
